Iain Armitage was born in Arlington, Virginia, to British actor Euan Morton and American theater producer Lee Armitage. He is also the grandson of former U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Richard Lee Armitage.
Iain attended a local school in Arlington County and later graduated from a local high school. Due to his demanding schedule, he is currently being homeschooled. In addition to his studies, Armitage has learned to speak various languages, including Russian, Armenian, Arabic, Ukrainian, German, Spanish, Italian, Assyrian, and Sinhalese.

Before starting his professional acting career, Iain Armitage rose to fame through his YouTube series Iain Loves Theatre, where he reviews musical theater productions. The success of his videos drew the attention of the theater industry and led to offers from agents. In 2015, he was a correspondent for Perez Hilton at the Tony Awards and was mentioned in the show's opening number.
