Actor Olgun Şimşek was born on 1 June 1971 in the village of Yenice in Büyükorhan, Bursa. His paternal family is of Alevi Kurdish descent from Bingöl. His maternal family is Sunni Turkmen from Bursa. His father was a primary school teacher and his mother was a housewife.
Olgun Şimşek graduated in theatre from the Istanbul University State Conservatory and began his professional acting career in 1993.
