Blair Underwood was born in Tacoma, Washington as a son of Marilyn Ann Scales, who works as an interior decorator, and Frank Eugene Underwood, who works as a United States Army colonel that is why he lived on bases and Army Posts in the United States and Stuttgart, Germany throughout his childhood due to his father's military career.
Blair Underwood attended Petersburg High School in Petersburg, Virginia and then went on to attend the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and is an honorary member of the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity.
