Synopsis & Storyline of “Dangal” Film

Mahavir Singh Phogat, a former amateur wrestler trained in the Pehlwani style of Indian wrestling, is a national wrestling champion residing in Balali, Haryana. His average Indian father forces him to give up the sport to obtain gainful employment. Dejected he could not win a medal for his country, he vows that his unborn son will. Disappointed with having four daughters, he gives up hope but when his older daughters Geeta and Babita come home after beating two boys in response to derogatory comments, he realizes their potential to become wrestlers and begins coaching them...

Dangal was a huge commercial success, breaking several records at the box office. It became the highest-grossing Hindi film, the highest-grossing Indian film, the 32nd highest-grossing non-English film (5th highest at the time of release), and the 18th highest-grossing sports film worldwide. The film was produced on a budget of ₹70 crore (US$8.4 million) and grossed ₹2,024 crore (US$340 million) worldwide by various estimates, including $216.2 million in China. This made it one of the country's top 20 highest-grossing foreign films. According to some estimates, it remains the only Indian film to cross the ₹2000 crore mark. As of November 2018, the film has been watched more than 400 million times on Chinese streaming platforms.
